Want to spit on your hand and then shake mine? Or rather, would you rather cut your palm with a sharp knife (don't worry, I'll do the same) and then we can shake that way?
You know – a pledge. A pact. A promise.
Okay fine, I won't require any blood from you (yet… muah ha ha) but I would love you to pledge something for me. After all, we're only a week away from Earth Day. And this is as great of time as any to start thinking about the effects that our actions have on our local environment and our world as a whole.
Now, don't worry. I'm not a crazy hippy who's going to go hug a tree and tell you to get rid of your SUV. Well, I may be a hippy (still not sure) but that's not the point.
The point is that we're aware and that we're moving in a positive direction toward where we want to end up.
Presenting MightyNest.
I love finding great companies like this – companies who care about their environmental impact and what that will mean for our future. I see so many correlations between this ‘eco-friendly' lifestyle and that of us homesteaders. After all, isn't it the homesteaders mantra to ‘waste not, want not'? Or ‘use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without'? Or ‘buy it once, buy it right'? As a homesteader, I HAVE to think about our environmental impact because it directly affects the products we grow on this land. If I don't properly care for my pasture land, it will fail to thrive. If I drench my weeds and lawn in chemicals, my animals feel the immediate affect. Working with nature is a gentle balance – a dance. Mighty Nest gets that balance.
I'm so excited to be able to offer a special giveaway in honor of this great company and of Earth Day. Because tree hugger or not, I'm very passionate about this beautiful world. And when you think about the amount of toxins that our bodies take in throughout the course of a day, it's pretty remarkable.
My morning cup ‘o joe is no exception.
Unfortunately, plastic coffee makers leach all sorts of chemicals into that succulent cup of goodness. And when there are easy, safe, and beautiful alternatives (lucky for us!) it's a very painless transition. So what I'm asking you to do is pledge (with me!) to ditch the plastic coffee maker! A small step, yes. But why not! You could win $150 worth of MightyNest eco-friendly coffee gear!
By taking this pledge, you have the opportunity to win this beautiful Chemex, glass coffee drip system:
I love this thing. Like a piece of art on my stovetop. Have you ever used one? They're so fun!
A filter, some freshly ground coffee (organic and fair-trade, naturally) and a bit of hot water from the drip kettle also included in the giveaway:
Isn't she a beauty?
And over the grounds the hot water goes:
And these glass mugs? Fu-get-about-it. I feel like an eco-Queen.
You've only got a week to enter this giveaway, so don't snooze! Have another cup of (plastic-free) joe and take the pledge with me (and then head over to MightyNest to purchase this super-cute tea towel that's practically the cutest thing I've ever seen in my life).
Here's how to enter:
l. Take the pledge to brew your coffee free of plastic!
2. Support your local school by entering them to win up to $1000 in the Mighty Nest for Schools Earth Day Challenge. Use the widget below to choose your school (based on zip code) when you pledge. MightyNest will accept pledges up until April 22th, then the school with the most pledges will win $1000. Other top schools will share $3000 in additional prizes.
Happy Earth Day, my friends!

This would be awesome. Thanks for the chance to win.

Thank you for hosting this. We already use a stainless steel Lindy’s coffee drip maker but I have been wanting one of these for when I want just a cup.
Desiré
I’ve been slowly eliminating plastic from my life. The coffee maker never crossed my mind! Thanks for the reminder. My friend has a Chemex and I love it.
Cassandra
I have never seen one of these! We are using a stainless steal camping percolator at the moment which gets the job done:), but this makes perfect sense, and looks beautiful! 😀

LOVE the idea of ditching my coffee maker for this little system. I already grind my coffee each morning, so what’s a few extra steps? =)
Beth Terry
Hi. I stumbled across this blog post via my ongoing Google alert for the phrase “plastic-free”! I am not entering the contest because I don’t need a coffee maker (I cold brew mine in a mason jar), but I wanted to say hi and also suggest that an even more eco-friendly way to use the Chemex coffee maker would be with a reusable canvas or hemp coffee filter. I got mine at a San Francisco food coop, but you can find them on Etsy as well.
Cheers. I’ve linked to the giveaway on my Facebook page and will tweet as well.

I have always wanted a Chemex! I am very close to being plastic free in the kitchen.
Heather
We’re going to be purchasing a new coffee maker in a few months, and this looks like a great option. It’s so pretty, too!
Shelah
I love Mighty Nest!! I used them all the time for purchases. Love that they donate to a school of my choice.
Great giveaway Shaye!

Thank you. I would love to win this.

I have a Mr. Coffee drip and before that I had a Stainless Steel Percolator and also a manual Stainless Steel espresso maker. I would definitely get rid of Mr. Coffee as it drips through plastic. I never thought of that.
Colleen
Wow! I’ll definitely be using our french press.. especially now I’m pregnant! I’ll Try and cut back on toxins, lil baby cakes!

I was just looking at this exact coffee maker and kettle on-line yesterday. I was planning to put it on my Mother’s Day gift list. It was a no brainer to make the pledge.

Great giveaway… thank you! Fingers crossed for my school district!
Mel
Thanks so much Shaye – I have wanted one of these for quite some time! Beautiful…

Wow–I’ve never even thought about my coffeemaker in terms of plastics or sustainability. I strongly favor–and use–glass for drinking and food storage. I guess I still have some way to go.
Robert Martschin
I didn’t know Canadians were not allowed…oh well…
Kristin
Love the idea of ditching plastic. I have no more plastic Tupperware but I am guilty of a plastic drip for coffee.
szuszi
bah-bye plastic, hello glass!
Jon
This is a great giveaway!! Thanks for hosting and happy Easter 🙂
Pamela
Paper filters? I’ll keep my plastic coffee maker and use a gold filter over and over and over and over . . .
Fae
Well, one step at a time. I wonder if there’s a way to put a different filter on the giveaway- possibly/probably? And the plastic still may leach chemicals into the hot water, which was the explicit point made…
Kristin
Thank you for hosting this giveaway!
Laura Gay
This I need! Thanks for the opportunity to win 🙂

Technically, I should have known that there was a healthier and greener way to brew coffee, but, I was totally on the dark about this one! Thanks for the info. I subscribed to the blog, and I already love MightyNest. Collaboration is cool. Thanks again!
Gayle
Glass is my favorite!!!
AnnaBanana
I discovered and immediately wanted a Chemex about a year ago…but I already owned a french press, and another coffee making gadget would have been a little overindulgent for someone who seeks to simplify her life. Well, lo and behold, one of beloved children cracked my french press, so I am now extremely ready and even in need of one of these lovely coffee brewers! I’m in!!! (love!)
Carrie A Groff
Thank you for this great giveaway! I would love a Chemex!
Tamika Anderson
this would truly be an amazing gift. I have wanted to ditch our plastic coffee maker forever. The darn things never last and I feel so wasteful having to toss one or donate it. Even though I am still young, I found myself in a place in my life where I want what I purchase to last me throughout my entire life time.thank you for the opportunity to win this beautiful set up.
Sophia DeLonghi
What a beautiful coffee pot! And that kettle! Love it!
Holly
I ditched my plastic coffee maker about two weeks ago, and I’ve been using a mini French press. I’d love a set-up that could make me a bigger cup of coffee.
Lynne N
I have never seen anything like this I really love the idea! We have a coffee press that is glass but I like this and might have to try it.
Alisha Sienkiel
These are so cute! Thanks for the great giveaway

Melissa
Man-o-man, this would be great!!
Aaron
Wow! This just may be the best giveaway ever. I’ve tasted Chemex coffee, and it is the ultimate brewing system and so simple. Lucky person who wins this set! It’s (secretly) on my Father’s Day Wishlist.
Isis
This would make a great addition to my home and help me reduce waste.
Alexia Evans
Thank you for the chance to win. One of my co-workers has one of these and I always wanted one. I tend to take care of my family first and me later. I mean my daughter is growing like a weed and needs new shoes so money that I have goes for that first. I think most Mom’s can attest to that. We take care of other’s before we take care of ourselves but that is the way of life.
j miller
love it
