Sugar and Salt Scrub

January 12, 2012 - 34 Comments

A beauty routine is a personal thing, isn't it?

Some of us buff, some of us scrub, some of us brush, some of us tweeze, some of us curl.

I am a wash-er, exfoliate-er, cream smear-er, waxin' fool.

We've already talked about my castile soap face wash. And we've also already talked about my homemade face cream. But what we have yet to talk about is my scrub, baby.

A homemade sugar & salt scrub to be more exact.

If you're looking for a good place to start making homemade items, well then my friends, this is the perfect place to start.  =Mixing up this scrub takes approximately forty five seconds.

It's faster than scrambling an egg.

It's faster than changing a diaper.

It's faster than sweeping dog hair off your floors.

And it's definitely faster than doing dishes.

So procrastinate on all those tasks and make this instead. After forty-five seconds, you'll feel so proud of yourself, you'll just breeze through your remaining ‘to-do' list with a smile on your face and a song in your heart.

And I'm not even being dramatic.

Sugar & Salt Body Scrub
You will need:
 – 1/4 cup sugar (this is one of my only recipes I use white sugar for!)
 – 1/4 cup sea salt
 – 1/4 cup coconut oil
 – 20 drops lavender oil and 20 drops peppermint oil (or essential oil of your choice!)

Step One: Combine the sugar, salt, and coconut oil in a bowl.

Step Two: Use a fork to smoosh it all together.

Step Three: Add in your essential oils… and smoosh a little bit more.

BAM. Told ya it was fast.

I store mine in a recycled baby food jar that I stole from my sister – it's perfect for keeping in the shower.

To use, I simply use my fingers to scoop out a nickel-sized dollop of the cream and use my fingertips to massage it onto my face and neck. After I wash off my makeup with castile soap, of course.

It's heavenly and the coconut oil leaves my skin super soft and moisturized.

And on a side note, I did have quite the skin-scare today. While I was brushing my teeth, I looked at myself in the mirror – and to my horror, I saw a giant black hair sticking out of my chin! How can this be?! 25 years old aren't supposed to have chin hairs?! [Update: Read what happens to me a few years later…]

I cried!

I screamed!

I threw myself on the floor, kicking my legs and banging my fists on the ground!

I cried some more!

Then, I looked closer, and realized it was a dog hair that was stuck to my face.

…

Phew! That was close!

A girl can never be too careful about these things…I think I'll get waxed.

Just in case.

Sugar & Salt Scrub.

A great and easy DIY product for your skin.

The scrub sounds amazing! Had to laugh at your “scare”, sorry. But your false scare, is reality at my age! Trouble is, along with the wild hair my eyesight is not what it used to be. So the scary thought of what hairs am I NOT seeing sets in! LOL

Love this! I work in a pub and have just taken a little bit of salt to give this a go!
Also … black chin/neck hairs are definitely a thing for 25 year olds. That was when I knew I was old. 😂😂

I was wondering if maybe a lemon zest or any citrus zest might work? (if you don’t have essential oils)

You can but when you put citrus into your crib, you’ll only have to use it at night. When you use it during the day you’ll have to use a Sunscreen with SPF not less than 30 to avoid skin burn.

Hi, thanks for this great recipe!
I’m just wondering how long it keeps for? I want to make some for a gift, so want to make sure it won’t spoil too quickly.

    Thanks!

You could add fresh orange or lemon zest. Dried lavender would also work.

Thanks for sharing this scrub recipe with us. Can I use Himalayan pink salt instead of sea salt. Because I have Himalayan salt on hand and I use it in cooking. It is very good. So I want to know If i can use it. I have even bought a salt lamp as well. It is as good as Himalayan salt itself. You can see different Himalayan salt products at the website of ittefaqco .

Makin these also with pink Himalayan sea salt (which I bought but ago at Home Goods super cheap for my daughters baby shower (it’s a girl!) for favors in little jars. Have a gigantic bottle of olive oil & would love to use it up – think that would work instead of the expensive coconut oil?

If you have course you can simply mash it to make it a little finer.

Made the sugar and salt scrub just as the recipe stated. I added lavender inside the mix and a little extra swooshes of peppermint and lavender oils. Excellent! I’m making some jars for my niece’s baby shower. Thanks for sharing the recipe.

LOL, I had the same reaction when I saw my first hair on my chin, at age 16. I ran downstairs to tell my Mom and seek some guidance. She said, “it was hereditary”, I cried for weeks. Great scrub recipe!!

I make the scrub using Epsom salt. It is very coarse so I don’t use it on my face; arms and legs only. .But it is very effective removing the dry dead skin also ingrown hairs that I did get occasionally are a thing of the past.
My sister has oily skin and will not use anything greasy. I substitute glycerin for the oil component. It is a moisturizer that softens skin, and decreases oiliness I buy it on Amazon if my drugstore doesn’t carry it.

When selecting essential oils, it may simply come down to scents and aromas you like best. For more information, you can also check my blog below:

I use about a heaping tablespoon in my bath and it feels amazing‼️ It doesn’t leave a bath ring like mist bath oil does either- shocking but true‼️ It must be the sugar or the salt that prevents this- I don’t know I just ❤️IT THANK YOU
