A percale weave which is a traditional one-yarn-over and one-yarn-under results in a very structurally sound, long wearing fabric that is resistant to pilling. It has a crisp, yet soft, feel and allows more air to pass through it, providing a ‘cool' sleep on warm nights and a ‘warm' sleep on cool nights. This is the same weave used in most luxury hotel bedding and the quality heirloom sheets your grandparents used.
Tuck into a delicious loaf of bread: Order your Jovial Einkorn Flour at jovialfoods.comIn 2008, Carla and Rodolfo teamed up with an organic farmer just a few minutes from their home in Northern Italy, to grow the first 50 acres of einkorn wheat. Einkorn was new to them and farmer Stefano, and they were both worried and delighted to see how differently it grew. Einkorn yields a fifth of modern wheat and reaches above 5 feet tall by the harvest in late July.
A decade has passed and the same farmers are still growing einkorn for Carla and Rodolfo. All of our farms are located in remote, pristine areas, and have ample land to adhere to a five-year rotation plan with forage and legumes. One of the most beautiful and largest farms where our einkorn always grows is located in Tuscany, outside of Siena.

Half way through this episode and yes, yes, YES! Skirts for gardening! One of my goals in life it to prove that skirts and dresses do not have to be fancy. Midi length and maxi length linen or linen blend skirts are so perfect for working in. And you should try to sew one! I sew about 70% of my wardrobe, everything from basic tees and skirts to jeans and heavy winter coats and nothing is more satisfying. It is a powerful thing to go out into the world clothed in a garment that you put love and thought into. I firmly believe that fiber is every bit as much an artistic medium as paint or clay, and made even more personal because the art created in the line, color, and texture of a garment is how you express your self to the world. Love the podcast Ladies, you are bringing light in my home in these trying times! PS. DO you need one more reason to sew yourself a skirt? Three words, total pocket control! Made them as big and deep as you want!

What sewing machine do you recommend? I plan to sew my own clothes as well. I would like one that’s going to last and worth the money. Thank you!

Here’s a shout-out to my fellow midwesterner-across-the-lake for surviving another frustrating almost-spring!!! My name is Carrie (not Karen) and I’ve enjoyed listening to all of your podcasts, especially when y’all debated about fashion rules (very funny, and thought-provoking), and I even liked this episode about the virus. Working in elderly patients in healthcare, my feelings flip-flop too. (Like, seriously, I can’t use a pit toilet at the state park??) Meanwhile, like the two of you, I learned from 2008 and will continue my journey toward being more self-sufficient, because it feels good :). Keep up the great work ladies!!!
Lizzy
I loved you before and I love you two even more now. Please, keep it up. You are talking about liberties, freedom and families + communities being self sufficient. You have a platform to reach people like us. Good people who NEED direction. Anyway. My phone is telling me this is your latest podcast…you mentioned April…pretty sure I am BEHIND the times. Anyway. Thanks and cheers from a fellow *cross out wine and add gin* drinker –

Fight the power!
I’m just now listening, and honestly, so nice hear others speaking truth. All these rules are arbitrary, and just because we have a bunch of our appendages tied, doesn’t mean we should give up the last free one!

I just found and read the article in The Atlantic about you and your homestead literally yesterday! Seemed subtley but blatantly to me passive aggressive and condescendingly judgemental. Lol I thought you were very bold in stating your beliefs in such a secular context. I wish the reporter would’ve done your homestead life more justice. Love the podcast!

I love the yardwork dress/ skirt conversations! I love longer skirts. I love doing DIY projects around the house and yard. So I have ruined countless skirts. I love the feeling of a flowing skirt and they are quite warm/layerable for Alaskan weather.
I have been HUNTING for brands that have durable washable skirts ( that are flowy and classic). The closest I have found is thrift store finds from 90 styles from coldwater creek. My favorite being a pastel mint colored long sleeved velvet ( well made velvet) maxi dress. It has the perfect amount of pleats to flatter curves. It’s perfect, but it is already wearing out from the abuse I put it through. I have been trying new coldwater creek skirts/,dresses but I have been disappointed. So I find myself, once again, unable to find anything similar. Now, I’m about to bust out the sewing machine and attempt to make my own. Why is it so hard to find classic durable chic dresses/ skirts? I will definately be looking up the recommended brands and materials I have found on here. Thank you!

Hello Darlings! In a time where there was a void in my heart that I thought was lost; you gals sparked my homestead dream candle. Dear ones continue to walk in love and walk in the Lord. This was a delight to listen to.
