Growing A Year's Worth of Onions!

What a harvest - after growing a year's worth of onions, it was time to put them up in the root cellar last week. A lot of work but on the whole, this crop really looks after itself.

The onions are are sown in February - five seeds per cell. Then the plug is transplanted out into the no-dig vegetable garden beds and left to grow until the tops start to brown and fall over. After that, the onions are cured and braided before making their final move to the root cellar. I grow about 750 onions: enough for roughly using two onions per day. The varieties filmed here are: Patterson, Redwing, and Yellow of Parma.
