10 Tips For An Efficient Homestead Kitchen

For us, this season means days spent in the kitchen, plates of cookies, breakfast bakes, and often extra places set for company. It is a bustling and buzzing time of dishes, bowls of winter citrus, empty wine bottles - and did I mention dishes?

I’ve learned over the years that I function much better in the kitchen when there are certain safe-guards in place to keep the entire experience of cooking from-scratch from pulling me under (which it’s done plenty of times if I’m being honest). I’ve often fell victim to my kitchen, moping around that the family was hungry yet again and lamenting that no one was coming to rescue me from dishes, sweeping, or planning meals. Perhaps you’ve been there too…

It sounds fresh and comfortable to convert your kitchen to a “from scratch” kitchen, even more so if some of that beautiful food is coming from your own piece of land or local farms. But the truth remains that from-scratch cooking comes with certain demands and costs that have to be accounted for.

For our American subscribers potentially still cleaning up from the post-Thanksgiving madness, I hope you find this video timely. Today, I’m sharing with you 10 tips that I’ve found incredibly helpful over the years for creating an efficient, user-friendly homestead kitchen:

Our kitchens, while stationary, are very much living organisms in a from-scratch kitchen (not the least of which comes from the slow-rising natural yeast loaves often left out on countertops or fermenting garlic that’s hiding in the pantry, which are in fact, living organisms). Cooking is essential to life and finding ways to do it that make it more healthy, efficient, and pleasurable are the goal here.

I hope you enjoy today’s new video! It will never cease to bring me great joy to bring dishes from the kitchen and share them with the world. Thank you for being a supportive part of it.

Cheers,

Shaye
