Autumn Tasks On Our Small Family Farm

Some tasks will wait - the floors in my kitchen are content, covered in dirt and remnants of eggshell from a hastily-made-breakfast. They’ll sit there as long as I let them.

Other tasks in our cottage require a bit more punctuality - it’s now or never. Or rather, it’s now or pay-the-price-for-waiting.

From ripping out stalks from the garden before they go to seed, to harvesting potatoes before the first frost comes, to getting firewood stored away before the rain arrives later this weekend. Procrastination on any of these tasks would exponentially increase our work in the future. While all of them are loads of work now, it’s nothing in comparison to what we’re saving ourselves from by being prepared and active now… before the chips fall.
