Life Snippets: The New Potager

May 23, 2016 - 20 Comments

There are so many special details to share with you about the new potager, but in the meanwhile, I've recorded a short video to give you a little garden tour of what we've been up to! Since the video, I'm pretty sure my dog has eaten at least two more plants. Yay.

Have you ever heard of a Potager Garden before? You can learn more about them in my earlier post about Planning a Potager Garden. Do you love seeing videos of our life on our farm? Subscribe to our YouTube channel. 🙂

Love the iron fencing. I know how hard you’ve worked. I know how hard it is to get a garden started. It’s a big job; especially with 4 little ones.

I have seen the pictures but now that i have had a tour I’m so much more invested and inspired. It looks amazing. Now that i have land i need to get up and going too. It also just makes more sense in my head with the video as opposed to pictures. Great job!!!

You guys have done tons of work! I dreamed of an Aspen tree, and a few years ago I got one — this Fall I need to prune already! I LOVE the door arbor and your topiary trees. Yes. it takes time and you can savor all the steps along the way. Thanks for sharing. Haven’t started my garden, but a friend is mailing me MINT because it grows like weeds at her place. So that will be the start of my garden this year.

I loved what I could watch. My darn motion sickness wouldn’t let me finish, so I listened and did some fancy imagining. You have accomplished so much in so short of time!! Congratulations!!

Just like several other people mentioned, I loved the tour! Your pictures are always beautiful, but it was nice to see how things are in relation to each other. Hoping to see more tours in the future.

Shaye I tried something this past summer that you might want to do in your garden. I put down cardboard in the middles between the rows & the I hauled mulch from where the power line crews had dumped the chipped limbs for anyone who wanted it to get as much as they wanted . it is a first come ,first get thing. I put about 2-3 inches of mulch on top of the cardboard. it will smother out the weeds & rot down too help improve your soil. it made weeding so much easier for me. I am planning to do that again next spring . it also helps hold in moisture .

Love it! What are the dimensions of your garden? And also you mentioned you would be combatting grass and weeds for a few years because it used to be lawn. Did you kill the lawn before tilling it up? What was your process there?
